Calvary Baptist Church in Waterbury, Connecticut

What is a FLOCK group? And why should I join one?

Flock groups are designed to strengthen the believer in their walk with God. They also serve as an outreach ministry in neighborhoods throughout our community.  There are at least five biblical aspects to our flock ministry.  First, it cultivates fellowship.  The F.L.O.C.K.s are another place where we can experience genuine biblical fellowship and encourage one another unto love and good works – Ephesians 2:10.

Second, it is a place for leadership development.  The F.L.O.C.K.s provide an ideal place for the members of Calvary to exercise their ministry gifts; building up Christ’s body, which is His church -Ephesians 4:11f.

Third, it provides opportunities for outreach.  The small family nature of a F.L.O.C.K. provides a conducive setting for attendees to bring a friend.  There they can observe in a close setting the love and unity that exists among Christians.  They will hear the Word of God and watch as the believers use their spiritual gifts to build each other up in the Lord. – Matthew 28:19-20.

Fourth, it provides a place where genuine caring takes place.  The F.L.O.C.K.s will have many occasions to care for each other in practical ways.  Along with its regular prayer time, each flock provides a rich setting to genuinely meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs within the group – James 2:14f.

Finally, it is a place to grow more in our knowledge of the Lord.  The study of God’s Word is central to the life of a F.L.O.C.K. and is a place where the Bible is openly discussed and questions can be answered. It is also a place were the children of God can be held accountable to the righteous behavior that should characterize the sheep of God’s pasture – Hebrews 10:22-25.
