Whether you are building a house or building your life you need a solid foundation upon which to build. This is what Peter is writing about in our passage. He is assuring his readers that they (unlike their persecutors) built their lives on the right foundation. They may be suffering now and the wicked may appear to be prospering, but the worldly prosperity of the wicked is temporary . . . an illusion. What appears to be prosperity will one-day change in a moment.
Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.” – 1 Peter 2:5
