Come See The Place Where The LORD Lay - Matthew 28:6

Apr 17, 2022    Dr. Craig P. Scott

People travel far and wide to see Jerusalem. They go there to see the places where Jesus once walked. They want to see where the miracles were performed. They want to see the place where Jesus was born. They want to see the garden where Jesus frequently visited with His disciples. But as we approach the tomb . . . the place where they laid our LORD . . . our thoughts become fixed on the agonies of the cross.
There we contemplate Joseph of Arimathea pleading with Pilate for the body of Jesus. We imagine the sorrowful journey he and Nicodemus made to the cross to remove Jesus' lifeless body. It was a gruesome and difficult task. We can imagine Mary Magdalene and the other women watching as Joseph and Nicodemus moved the body to the sepulcher. They followed and watched as they washed and wrapped His body in clean white linen and covered it with belts of spices before they moved his body into the sepulcher and closed it with a large stone, then they all hurried off before the Sabbath began.
The following day, before the sun broke over the horizon, we find Mary Magdalene, Joanna and other women making their way to the tomb to apply more spices to Jesus’ body.
In this message we will join them as they visit that garden tomb. For we are given an invitation by the angels to do so. It reads this way, “Come, see the place where the Lord lay” (Matthew 28:6).
