Wake Up, Clean Up, Grow Up - Romans 13:11
The Apostle Paul begins with an alarm clock analogy found in Romans 13:11. It reads . . .
“And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand:” - Rom. 13:11-12a
First century Christians initially believed that Jesus would be returning at any moment. When he didn’t, some grew complacent and began to lose a sense of commitment to their faith. So, in our passage written 26 years after Jesus’ death burial and resurrection Paul reminds them that they were ever nearer to their ultimate salvation, their heavenly home.
If there is anything that Christians need to do in 2023 and beyond is to wake up and realize we are in a spiritual war for our souls and the souls of our family. No more lawn-chair Christianity.
“Let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. 7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.”
Those that sleep will be swept away.
