Take This Child and Nurse Him - Exodus 2:1-9
Today we are going to examine the life of a godly mother. She was not called to make the social registers of the world or to do such noble things as delivering an enslaved people. But according to the Scriptural account she was to “take this child and nurse him” (Exodus 2:9). Nowhere is she described in glowing details like Abraham’s wife Sarah, or the prophetess Debra, or as Ruth. In fact, the words I just read about her are given only in passing. She is described as Amram’s wife, the daughter of Levi, and a mother of three children. However, her three children grew up to be remarkable leaders. To them she transmitted a godly character and challenged them to live a life of faith. Without a doubt, a major influence in the lives of each of these children can be attributed to the conscientious training given by a devoted mother. So, today I would like to pause and reflect on the life of Jochebed, the mother of Aaron, Miriam and Moses.
