Our Love Toward God - 2 Corinthians 11:1-3
The Apostle Paul likens our relationship with Christ to that of an engagement or marriage.
Furthermore, in 2 Cor. 11:1 he asks his 1st century audience to bear with him in his analogy because he will uses a number of personal experiences (which is not typical for Paul). The context of this passage is Paul defending his genuine love for those at Corinthian.
“Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed, bear with me. For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.” 2 Cor. 11:1
Paul’s concern, and my concern, is that many within today’s church have been corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. Many have fallen into the trap of thinking God does not love us. Or God does not care or love us like others.
“But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ” (2 Cor. 11:3).
So in like manner, we will examine how we should demonstrate our love toward God.
