Sexual Immorality Within the Assembly - 1 Corinthians 5

Jul 24, 2022    Dr. Craig P. Scott

The Corinthian church had many problems, two of them are highlighted in our passage this morning. The first was an ongoing issue of gross sexual immorality going on in the life of an active church member and the church was doing nothing about it. Apparently, the assembly was deeply influenced by their ungodly culture. As a result, they were not dealing with a serious sin issue taking place within their fellowship of believers. Second, they were misunderstanding Paul’s instruction on how to separate from the world.

This passage is an important reminder to today’s church. We are to be . . . “as obedient children, not to fashion ourselves according to the former lusts in our ignorance: But as He which hath called us is holy, so we are to be holy in all manner of conduct; 16 Because it is written, ‘Be ye holy; for I am holy.’” (1 Peter 1:14-16).
