Marriage in a Fractured World - 1 Corinthians 7

Aug 21, 2022    Dr. Craig P. Scott

The Corinthians knew Christ changed their lives, but they still had many questions as to how they were to live. Therefore, they wrote a letter to Paul. In it, they must have asked him a variety of questions regarding singledom, marriage, and divorce. Beginning in 1 Corinthians 7:1 to the end of the book, Paul answers their questions.
Much of their relational troubles in Corinth were a byproduct of their pagan and morally corrupt society in which they lived. Their society tolerated fornication, adultery, homosexuality, polygamy, and concubinage. This passage is given as guidance to those who placed their trust in Christ and now wanted to walk in this new life pleasing before God.
