Our Faith Is Revealed in Our Prayer Life - James 5:13-20
Three groups of people are being addressed in this passage. First are the suffering Christians in need of prayer. James writes, “Is any among you afflicted? let him pray" (James 5:13a). Second are the weak and defeated Christians in need of care. He asks, “Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord” (James 5:14). Finally, he addresses the strong within the assembly to reach out to those who stray from the faith. “Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins” (James 5:19-20).
The overarching theme in this passage is prayer. James is calling the brethren scattered abroad to examine their faith one last time in regards to their prayer, for our faith is revealed during times of physical pain and suffering in our prayer life.
