Genuine Faith Is Revealed In Our Desires - James 4:1-10

May 15, 2022    Dr. Craig P. Scott

Our faith is revealed in our desires. The central truth in the present passage is “friendship with
the world results in hostility toward God” – James 4:4. Genuine spiritual life and faithful Christian living involves separation from the countless contaminating influences found in this world. James notes that “The wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy” – James 3:17. Therefore, the fruit of righteous is sewn in peace by those who make peace. However, we are told that the continual friendship with the world is grounded in human wisdom and is evidenced in unbelief. Such ungodly friendship results in personal conflict with others. It is stirred up by the conflict occuring within the heart, and is rooted in man's conflict with God.
