Power of God and the Foolishness of Men - 1 Corinthians 1:18-31

Jun 12, 2022    Dr. Craig P. Scott

To the unredeemed, the things of God seem foolish. Yet, among the unredeemed those that believe in UFO’s, aliens, ghosts, pyramid power, any number of conspiracy theories. Then there are those who hold to all kinds of superstitions, like: itchy palms means good luck; walking under a ladder brings bad luck; breaking a mirror: brings bad luck; finding a horseshoe brings good luck; opening an umbrella inside the house brings bad luck; knock twice on wood: reverses bad luck; tossing spilled salt over your shoulder brings good luck. Along with this 7% of Americans still believe Elvis is alive, yet, they won’t even consider the claims of Christianity.
The passage this morning comes from 1 Corinthians 1:19, “For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.”
